On the Catwalk…

I am offically going to be in a fashion show next Saturday night as part of the Breathe Now Confrence’s reception at The Temple Downtown.

I am beyond excited as BIF Naked is there keynote speaker the following day and I am hoping beyond all hopes that she will be at the reception…maybe I can somehow sneak an autograph during my strut down the catwalk. :)

Roberta’s Hats

My hubby has an obbession with hats and Roberta’s Hats on Government Street in Victoria has fueled that obbession before he even knew he had it.

It started with an adventure to find an Indiania Jones, which he found and then that led onto Jack Sparrow’s pirate hat, a straw fedora (aka a Charlie Sheen hat), a top hat, themed hats for holidays, a crown for a costume and now Black Beard’s Hat from Pirates 3.

In all seriousness though, Roberta’s Hats does not dissapoint and the women that work there are always adorned with one of the lovely hats that you would hope to wear to afternoon tea.

My First Blog!

Hello Everyone! This is my very first post in the food blogging world after some prompting from friends and family.

I thought it appropriate to start my first entry with some cupcakes I made this weekend, Black Magic Cupcakes:


  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups white sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup strong brewed coffee
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract


  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F .  Get your cupcake liners into your muffin tray
  2. In large bowl (or Kitchen Aid) combine flour, sugar, cocoa, baking soda, baking powder and salt. Make a well in the center.
  3. Add eggs, coffee(cooled down), buttermilk, oil and vanilla. Beat for 2 minutes on medium speed.  (The batter will be thin, do not add more flour!)
  4. Bake for 20 to 30 minutes, or until toothpick inserted into center of cake comes out clean. Cool in the pan on wire racks until completely cool
  5. Ice as desired (I suggest Martha Stewart’s Buttercream Frosting)
